Introduction

About this document

The purpose of this document is to introduce developers to the LookSmart® API v3.0, a programmatic interface to LookSmart® accounts.

This document assumes that you are familiar with web services in general and SOAP programming in the specific. This document also assumes that you are familiar with the programming language you will be using.

About LookSmart®

LookSmart® is a web site that allows advertisers to buy and run text ads on web sites operated by or affiliated with LookSmart. Ltd.. Advertisers can manage creative (ad copy), targeting (keywords), bids, and other aspects of their pay-per-click (PPC) advertisements. Advertisers compete in an auction with other advertisers the LookSmart® web site gives advertisers the tools they need to manage these campaigns, track performance, etc.

Purpose of the API

The LookSmart® API v3.0 web service gives software developers access to most of the common campaign management and reporting functions available in LookSmart®. This enables companies to develop automated solutions that further extend the power and reach of LookSmart®, which enhances the value of the service to advertisers and publishers.

The LookSmart® API v3.0 web service is a free service available to any user that has an LookSmart® account. A separate access token is required to authenticate your software on the web service.
